The Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix kicks off on July 26, 2024!

This reminds us that in August 2022, the organization of the F1 Grand Prix of Spa Francorchamps which took place on August 28, 2022 required an urgent delivery of a PN40 pressure reducing valve.

Access to drinking water is a major issue worldwide, and we are proud to have played a key role in one of the most ambitious projects in this field in Saudi Arabia. We designed a DN150 stainless steel bypass pieces for a DN 1000 valve, a centerpiece in the potable water distribution system.

The project, located in Saudi Arabia, presented unique challenges both technically and logistically. Working in a complex international context required meticulous planning and impeccable coordination. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure that each component met the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Our contribution to the potable water project in Saudi Arabia demonstrates our ability to work on large-scale international projects and to meet the most demanding needs.

When we neglect our ecosystems, it is harder to provide the water we all need to survive and thrive.

Nature-based solutions have the potential to solve many of our water problems. We need to do much more with “green” infrastructure and harmonize it with “gray” infrastructure wherever possible. Planting new forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands will rebalance the water cycle and improve human health and livelihoods.

Explication : Sustainable Development Goal 6 – Ensure access to water and sanitation for all and ensure sustainable management of water resources – includes a target to halve the proportion of untreated wastewater and significantly increase the safe recycling and reuse of water globally.

World Water Day is coordinated by UN-Water (the United Nations inter-agency coordination mechanism for all freshwater issues) in collaboration with governments and other partners.

The Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix kicks off on July 28, 2023!
This reminds us that in August 2022, the organization of the F1 Grand Prix of Spa Francorchamps which took place on August 28, 2022 required an urgent delivery of a PN40 pressure reducing valve.

CLA-VAL 50-55F : Pressure Relief Valve with High Opening Speed and Progressive Closing Speed
The CLA-VAL 50-55F is typically installed on a main line by-pass and discharges any overpressure produced eventually at starting or stopping of the pump(s). When the pumping system is started and stopped gradually, harmful surges does not occur. However, should an electric power failure take place, the abrupt stopping of the pump(s) can cause dangerous surges in the system which could result in severe equipment damage.
The CLA-VAL 50-55F damps the respective overpressure and prevents any additional surge build-up by its controlled closure.

CLA-VAL presents this first DN1200 flow control valve of 6 tons fitted with a CPC-34 actuator and a D22 controller.

Only 24 V and 9 W are required to control this impressive valve with hydraulic backup for manual operation.

Sustainable development is a key part of the CLA-VAL sustainable strategy. CLA-VAL did embrace to avoid and reduces carbon footprint across the entire value chain. Our efforts include using green energy in our production facilities. Solar energy is a great given green energy. In 2019, CLA-VAL did launch a study to evaluate the potential for solar panels in their Swiss facilities. The study concluded to a real potential in using over 2’000 m2 (20’000 ft2) of flat roofs to install solar panels.

This summer installation of 736 solar panels totalizing 272,32 kWp power DC has been completed. The solar power installation produces 300 MWh per year equivalent to 116 tons saved CO2 or 5322 new planted trees.

CLA-VAL is very proud of this achievement and our group continues to innovate with a gradual switch to electric company vehicles, but also by improving our environmental performance, reducing carbon footprint and newly ISO 14001 certified.

The CLA-VAL group has been chosen to provide fire protection valves for the impressive Duqm refinery project in the Sultanate of Oman.

Some hundreds’ CLA-VAL fire protection valves will be installed on this huge industrial complex.

The Duqm refinery is based in Al Duqm in the South East of the Al Wusta governorate and is strategically located at the intersection of the international sea lanes in between the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. This facilitates transportation in and out of the Arabian Peninsula.

The “Office d’Equipement Hydraulique de Corse (OEHC)” in Ghisonaccia did choose the CLA-VAL group for the installation and commissioning of a fully automatic upstream-downstream pressure regulating valve with remote control.

This valve-solution is equipped with a turbine, which guarantees the necessary power supply for remote control. Depending on the pressure conditions, the pressure settings are transmitted in real time.

Additionally, using DPM technology – pressure differential metering , this valve is also able to calculate the flow rate.

The function of these valves is to control the downstream pressure by means of a motorized pilot. The pressure change is based on time and/or flow rate directly programmed within the CLA-VAL D22 controller. A SCADA system can be added at any time for remote monitoring. These valves are located closely to water tanks.

The picture shows clearly a hydraulic pilot CRD backup in order to override the electronics in case of power failure. It’s a unique advantage of CLA-VAL valves to back up the main function by means of various hydraulic pilots in the event of any kind of failure. CLA-VAL customers are increasingly insisting on minimizing the risk of failure by improving the safety and resilience of valves. To meet those requests CLA-VAL uses direct redundancy on the pilot circuit, which reduces the risk of water shut-off or other potential valve and/or downstream system problems.

After several years of perfect operation, the CLA-VAL DN400 altimetric valve, installed in the south of France, has been given a renewed life.

Refurbished and newly equipped with a step-by-step control pilot system, the valve regulates by means of a CLA-VAL D22 electronic controller. The D22 does allow optimized tank level management, the functions have also been upgraded with the installation of an integrated e-Flowmeter as well as MODBUS communication with a SCADA system.

CLA-VAL UNIQUE Solution !

CLA-VAL continuously innovates to resolve critical situations faced by our customers in the field.

For instance for step-by-step control valves (dual solenoid), where a solenoid gets blocked due to its high temperature.

When the valve is maintained at a certain position, one of the solenoids is constantly energized, hence heating to a temperature of more than 80°C (170°F), especially under hot weather condition. Solenoids present a high risk of getting blocked when reaching high temperatures, as a chemical reaction can happen, which will block its core over time.

CLA-VAL unique OPTICON solution implemented in the CLA-VAL D22 valve electronic controller reduces the electric power necessary to maintain a solenoid position by up to 90%. This will reduce the temperature of the solenoid by about 40°C, avoiding any blocking. This also obviously allows optimizing the power consumption of the overall electronics.

CLA-VAL is ready for the 2021 kick off with a new record inventory of control valves. CLA-VAL has increased its stock levels all around the world to quickly handle all your demands.

Heli-Hydrant Application for Fire Fighting.

Beautiful heli-hydrant application of a CLA-VAL modulating float valve with a latching shutoff solenoid.

Controlling valve opening/closing speed does prevent any surge into the upstream water system.

When approaching the heli-hydrant the helicopter pilot remotely triggers the water activation system allowing smooth opening of the CLA-VAL valve Model 129-55 for tank filling.

CLA-VAL Water Monitoring Safety Valve.

The construction phase of a building is a period with lot of risks with the water use:

-leaks and breaks in new untested system after working hours

-valves, faucets, hose valves left open when system shut down

-unauthorized use after hours

One of the major consequence, in addition to the damages, is insurance rising fees.

Install a CLA-VAL Water Monitoring Safety Valve is the solution to mitigate these risks. Installed on the main feeds of water supply, this valve will shut down water during non-working hours. On 3 September, the Latin Chambers of Commerce awarded ten particularly innovative manufacturers in French-speaking Switzerland. It is gratifying in these difficult times to see so much capacity for innovation. Together with resilience, these are Switzerland’s two greatest assets. CLA-VAL Valve built to last !

Stopped during Covid-19, since March 20^th the Geneva Fountain (Jet d’Eau) has been put back in service last Thursday June 11^th. Over 150 years old and main attraction in Geneva 500 l/s of water are jetted at 200 km/hr velocity to a level of 140 meters by two 500 kW pumps.

The two pumps, partially immerged in the lake under the Jet d’Eau itself, are reuniting in a single pipe under the water nozzle.

Just before the water nozzle a CLA-VAL Valve maintains a backpressure against the pumps in order to prevent cavitation on pumps starting’s.

This valve is a 2 solenoids type CLA-VAL 138 valve sized 350 mm.

Installed at end of 1960’s the main valve is now an over 50 years old reference !

Pressure Modulation Project with the North Caribbean Water Board (RENOC) – Guadeloupe.

Installation of 11 CLA-VAL valves equipped with the D22 controller and the CRD-34 motorized pilot, electrically powered by an e-Power IP turbine. Remote monitoring and control through our Link2Valves platform.

This solution allows to significantly reduce the leakage rate but also to manage water turns among various priority sectors.

Commissioning of four mixing valves in order to supply softened water between 7° and 9°f continuously for the entire sanitary installation of the hotel.The advantage of these valves is that they adapt to the variations in flow rate which results in a constant residual hardness at the outlet of the softener system. In this unique application, our customer need to reduce pressure drops throughout the day and ensure a fixed pressure during the night. In order to manage this particular application, CLA-VAL’s R&D team developed a customized ValvApp™ running on our electronic valve controller D22 linked to our motorized pilot CRD-34.On site, the electronic valve controller D22 is powered by a turbine e-Power IP. All related information and remote operations can be managed by means of our new platform Link2Valve™.

Inspired by Swiss precision CLA-VAL goes beyond current limits with the new “Delta Pressure” motorized pilot. The exceptional motorized pilot does reach an unprecedent sensitivity of 5 cm pressure and manages high pressure up to 42 bar ! Moreover, the revolutionary design allows a manual hydraulic back up (or by-pass) in case of electrical failure.
Very useful when high pressure does occur or for remote control reservoirs.

WETEX 2019 was a great success thank you for your confidence. The 22nd Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2020), which will run from October 26-28, 2020, will be held at the impressive site of the World Expo 2020 Dubai. CLA-VAL will be present.

CLA-VAL group bought a new foundry located in East Los Angeles. We have added 36,000 sq ft (approximately 3,500 square meters) of manufacturing space, expanding a lot our melting capacity.
